About Counselling

In our everyday lives, most of us find that we have abilities and resources which enable us to deal with life's difficulties.

At times, however, our usual approach does not seem to be enough, and we may even find that it is making the problem worse. We feel unhappy or stuck, but because we do not want to burden friends or family, we can feel very alone with our problem.

Counselling can help by providing a safe and confidential space for you to explore problems with the assistance of a trained, impartial outsider. By being listened to and accepted for who you are, the stress of feeling isolated or overwhelmed can be eased, and you can then start to find new ways of dealing with your problem. Your counsellor can help by asking the right questions, and offering a different perspective on your problem.

You may find that just a few counselling sessions are enough, but many people find that they get the most benefit if they have a longer period of regular sessions. This gives you the chance to put into practice what you have learned about yourself in the sessions, and to consolidate the changes.
